Welcome

Founded in 1986, the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA) has become an important international educational forum in the field of transnational arbitration, counting among its members and contributors today many of the leading arbitrators and arbitration counsel in the world.

The ITA is making a significant contribution to the international arbitration legal community through our annual international arbitration workshops and conferences, our Advisory Board which meets annually during the June Workshop in Dallas, our Academic Council, our Americas Initiative, our Young Arbitrators Initiative, our quarterly publication News and Notes with its regularly updated Scoreboard of Adherence to Transnational Arbitration Treaties, our co-sponsorship of KluwerArbitration.com through the work of our Board of Reporters, our law journal World Arbitration and Mediation Review edited by our Board of Editors, and our DVD Library and book series.

The 1st Annual ITA Winter Forum will be held on February 2-3, 2012 in San Francisco under the leadership of Prof. Susan Franck (Washington & Lee University Law School, Lexington, Virginia) and Leah D. Harhay (Of Counsel, Jones Day and Managing Editor, World Arbitration & Mediation Review, Lafayette, San Francisco, California).  Designed to draw together scholars and practitioners (at both the junior and senior level) for intellectual dialogue and practical insights in international arbitration.  The Winter Forum will feature presentation and discussion of scholarly works-in-progress, a Tylney-Hall style Forum for candid dialogue on important developments in the field, a special Roundtable for young lawyers and a variety of social networking opportunities.

The three primary young international arbitration organizations joined again with ITA to present a special program on the eve of the Workshop. The Roundtable included two substantive panels of young and not-so-young international arbitration specialists and concluded with a networking reception. The Roundtable is designed for young lawyers under the age of 40 who are practicing or interested in practicing international arbitration.
